COURSES
The curriculum of Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service is divided into two major areas. They are Specialized Courses which focus on the areas of funeral directing and embalming. The other area is the General Education Core Courses.

Computers in Funeral Service, Funeral Directing, Funeral Merchandising, Mortuary Administration, Occupational Safety, Office Accounting, Operating a Business
-Social Sciences / Humanities
Business Communication, Counseling / Dynamics of Grief, History of Funeral Service, Sociology of Funeral Service
-Legal, Regulatory, and Ethical
Business Law, Mortuary Law
-General Education Courses
Biology, Composition and Rhetoric, General Psychology, College Algebra, Elective (the elective offered at Commonwealth Institute is U.S. History)

Field trips and guest lectures are part of the curriculum to supplement the classroom activities. Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service and the National Museum of Funeral History have joined together and developed a guest speaker program.
